Meet Bouts N Pets - “Strengthening Bonds: The Bouts N Pets Way”

A simple yet powerful bonding tool for rescue dogs is the humble walk. It offers more than physical benefits; it builds trust, fosters leadership, and promotes emotional well-being. Rescue dogs carry past traumas, and building trust takes patience and time. Consistent walking routines aid them in adjusting to their surroundings and reduce anxiety. Regular walks communicate that you're a constant in their lives and that they can rely on you.

Additionally, walks help establish leadership, which is less about dominance and more about being a reliable guide. When your rescue dog sees you choosing the path, managing interactions, and setting the pace, it strengthens the bond.

Bonding with your rescue dog

As the dog has faced lots of challenges before it takes time for them to create a level of trust. Bonding with them also takes time, patience and effort. Tips for Bonding with Rescue Dogs                                                                  Here are some tips to grow your bond stronger with rescue dogs.

1. Follow your dog's lead- Dont force your dog to cuddle you or hold him too long, if he doesn't want you to. Let him come to you, let him sniff you. Following his cues will tell you if he feels comfortable with you. According to this, you can interact with him at his pace.  First, he will feel comfortable around you in the same room. If he comes near you and sits beside you then only you can pat him

2. Be patient- Dont rush your pup into cuddles and hugs. Remember how new this all is for him and you. Be patient with him and yourself.  From being in the same room to sitting in your lap he will bond with you but it will take time. So don't be hard on yourself or on your dog

3. Interact with them- Go be same room with them, go lay on the floor and let them get used to you. Remember to give space to them, be in their sight but not too close. Talk to them and let them see you. Instead of spending all the time training them make sure to let the dog used to your presence

4. Reward them.- Reward all the good behaviour with a high-value treat. Whenever the dog does something outside their comfort zone give them the treat. Put it in front of them and don’t speak or praise. She needs to think the treat is coming from this scary trigger, not you. So again don’t speak to her or touch her. Trigger happens, treat in the face.

5.  Be calm: While talking with your dog use a gentle and soothing voice. Remember to convey love and support to them. You being angry or worried will make them anxious and in some cases might trigger them. So talk to them politely
