Miya- Enchanting and Most Loyal Pup

Don't we all want a companion who is there by our side every single day? From needing a shoulder to cry on on the bad days to a pawsitive presence on those boring study sessions. Miya is such a sparkling pawsitive friend to her hooman.

She is the constant positive light to her human. She is there on long nights when work becomes too much for the hooman and encourages the hooman with a smile. She is there on the times when things get too rough and she makes it brighter. Surprisingly she is also the most dangerous thief of socks!

It's not only for her hooman, she spreads sunshine to many people online. And we are one of them! Just looking at her Instagram brings us a daily dose of happiness. You can follow her here

And we were lucky enough to chat with Miya and her hooman to find out how they improve their lives. So let's hear from them.

Becoming a pet parent is an unforgettable experience that transforms our lives completely. Could you please share your story about becoming a dog parent?

My journey to becoming a dog pawrent actually started with a cat! Our neighbour’s cat kept visiting our backyard to sunbathe and his routine visits became something we looked forward to every day. We started our search for adoptable cats and this somehow eventually led to the idea of having a dog. We came across a family nearby whose dog just had 4 puppies. Nearly all of the puppies were sold before we had a chance to visit them and only 1 puppy remained. This puppy was almost taken by another family, but they couldn’t make the trip that day due to the freezing rain. This was our only chance to see this puppy, so my family and I decided to go despite the weather. It was love at first sight when we met the puppy - she was mischievous, bounced off the walls, and loved to bother the cats in the house. She even tried to steal my mom’s sock! She was truly a pure ball of energy packed into 2.5 pounds of fluff. You will eventually know this rambunctious pup as Miya!

The cutest energy ball just doesn't steal socks, she stole everyone's heart with her energy and smile.  And we are one of her victims!

Pups are always the cause of smiles for everyone. Can you share a heartwarming story about you and your pup?

One of the most memorable moments I had with Miya is her first experience with snow! Never did I expect Miya to love snow as much as she does and her first winter was blessed with heaping amounts of snowfall. She loves dancing around and shoving her entire face in the snow, so we affectionately call her our “snow-shovelling helper”! Like a true Canadian pup, she completely embraces winter, to the point where she forgets about being cold and we have to carry her back inside (much to her dismay)!

This seems like the purrfect winter wonderland moment everyone dreamed of. Miya definitely loves to play and work hard to shovel snow to help her hooman!

It's truly amazing how much a little furry friend can bring so much joy and inspiration into our lives. I'm curious, in what ways has Miya impacted and motivated you to be a better version of yourself?

Miya inspires me to enjoy the little things in life. The shape of the clouds, the smell of the grass after rain, even the geese that bully Miya when we walk past - I never truly appreciated what it was like to just take time and “live in the moment”. But, after seeing Miya’s unfiltered happiness during a simple walk around the block, the everyday, “unimportant” things I didn’t notice before became precious memories.

Miya recognizes the importance of the little things in life that often go unnoticed or unappreciated. She makes an effort to remind everyone of their significance and worth, and we are star-struck by it.

4. Our pups are no less than a superhero from saving us from boredom to bringing us happiness. If your dog had a superhero alter ego, what superpower would Miya have?

I think Miya’s superpower would have to be invisibility! Miya’s incredibly sneaky, and always looks out for a chance to steal my socks (and treats, if they’re within reach). I definitely think she’d make use of her superpower to get away with a lot of mischief!

Miya definitely has the coolest superpower. Especially we can imagine her helping people on snowy days to keep everyone on the road safe. Here is something we created and imagined by her. If you love superheroes and dogs you need to read this book. It's available for free.

Being a pet parent is a huge responsibility. Do you have any advice for someone thinking of adopting a dog?

My advice for someone who’s thinking of adopting a dog is to be open-minded. Not all dogs will respond to the same way of training and that was something I struggled to understand when I first had Miya. For example, Miya is a sensitive pup and doesn’t really respond to treats when she feels uncomfortable. It took a lot of repetition and patience to get her used to listening to commands outdoors. Get to know your pup over time and see how they best respond - don’t be discouraged if things don’t go the way you thought it would, it’s all part of the journey!
